Older Boys Bedroom Makeover
The day had arrived when my son’s bedroom needed a makeover. He is 10 years and and prefers a floor covered in lego to a nice rug. I really struggled to find some inspo for an older boys bedroom makeover, so I decided to write this blog.
I made the school girl error of asking him for his colour choice… grey walls and green everywhere else! No that was NOT happening! I am a lover of grey but not on all 4 walls.
On reflection I should have offered him a choice from a carefully selected pallet. We have agreed on White Mist by Dulux it’s white with a hint of grey.
Logan has some really good quality solid pine furniture that was looking tired but was too good to replace so I suggested I painted it grey. There’s got to be some compromise right? He wanted grey so grey he shall have – I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen. I painted the draw faces white with a white satin spray paint. I was really pleased with the result and it’s so quick and easy. (Just reliant on a sunny dry day)
He choose to add yellow to the drawer knobs and they look pretty good too don’t you think. I used a satin spray paint for these too.
A quick trip to our new Ikea in Exeter and we found some yellow cushions a bit of storage and a super cool light. He thinks it looks like something from Star Wars and I can see why. The light is PS 2014 It was a bit of a faff to fit to the ceiling but putting it together was so much easier than I expected.
To increase storage space I choose a bed frame with enough space underneath for storage boxes.
The bed has been upgraded to a 4ft double rather than a single. It was a bit of a compromise as he is only going to get bigger but he didn’t want to loose too much floor space. The bed is from Argos and is the Kaycie. The Kuggis box from Ikea fits perfectly. I have managed to fill 5 of the 6 I bought with Lego!!!
The trusty Kallax unit from Ikea is a total dream to put together and just so versatile with the colour combinations. Being a bit of a neat freak myself and Logan not being so much, I added the cupboard doors, a set of drawers and two Drona Boxes.
The grey hanging storage is perfect for the TV remote control his book and iPad. It was a bargain too at £6. Its called the Knallbåge and guess where its from… Ikea.
All in all we are both really pleased with the outcome of the older boys bedroom makeover. Its now a room that will see him through into his teenage years.
